![]() ![]() Because this corridor was so important to the crew, the ship's crew came to affectionately refer to it as "Scotland Road". Along the length of Scotland Road were access hatches that led down to the boiler rooms, various store rooms and pantries, and numerous stairwells leading to further crew accommodations and store rooms. Further aft, the A la Carte Restaurant staff had their quarters. In addition to sleeping quarters, several lavatories were spread about, as well as a mess hall and small office set aside for engineering staff. Along it's length were the sleeping quarters for stewards, cooks, engineers, quartermasters waiters, and more. This corridor was one of great importance for the crew of the ship. ![]() Titanic featured a long corridor extending nearly the entire length of the ship along the port side of E-Deck. Scotland Road was severed in two when the ship broke up. and the developing starboard list was countered. Because the water could only move this freely at port side, Titanic started to list to port as soon as E Deck flooded at 1:00 A.M. When the ship was sinking, Scotland Road allowed the water to quickly flood all compartments accessible through the road. Crew members from the surrounding area noted the similarity with the corridor on Titanic, which played a similar role as a primary route, hence the name. Scotland Road remains a major thoroughfare in the northern part of the city. The name "Scotland Road" was given affectionately by members of the ship's crew, many of whom hailed from Liverpool. The boiler rooms also had an exit on Scotland Road. Several Third Class areas could be reached from Scotland Road like the open space and the dining room. There was also an entrance from shore here, single men boarded the ship at this entrance and ended up on Scotland Road. It was used by crew members and steerage passengers to quickly move between the ends of the ship.
